Blackberry Iris Eclipse

 

Today's card was created for one of the recent Dare to Get Dirty challenges over at Splitcoaststampers.  This was a brand new-to-me technique, completely inspired by the following Gina K Designs video:  

If you haven't tried this technique, put it on your stamping plans and give it a try!

I chose a retired Iris panel stamp from Rubbernecker Stamps, and opted to use a rich blackberry color rather than the black & white shown on the tutorial.  The choice of cover plate die determines the texture you'll see given to the stamped image.   My card features a cover plate die by Momenta.  Depending on your stamp and cover die choices, your result can vary from casual to elegant!

Yaaaaaay!   It's one of my favorite stamping weeks of the year!   The annual Dare to Get Dirty (DTGD) challenges have begun at Splitcoaststampers!  DTGD is a special challenge week presented as a bonus to SCS Fan Club members.  Come join in the fun!

My card today is for my sweet friend Kittie's challenge, DTGD19kittie747.  

I was eager to play with the new 'Splash' and 'Beach Waves' stencils from A Colorful Life designs.  Psssst!  Use code BevFan10 for a discount when shopping for your stencils!  I love the way these stencils create the look of watery fun, especially now that I've paired them with the 'Fin-tastic Friends' stamps by Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.

The 'Splash' stencil was used to create the primary background of this card.  I blended Distress Inks with Life Changing Brushes ... so easy & fun!   The 'Beach Waves' stencil was used atop blended inks for the mini scenes throughout my card. 

Believe it or not, I haven't used all of the images in the super-fun stamp set ... there are even more!

I created this by making 2 Z-folds, then affixing them together.  I'll add a view from the top to help you visualize the Z's.  

Don't worry ... you won't get the zzzzzzz's when creating with this fun design.

Lifting those Petals

Are you playing in the Dare to Get Dirty challenges this week?  There's plenty of fun to have and more challenges than I can make in a week ... but lots of stampers love to go for the win to create something for every challenge and scoop up some prizes!   Go, Go Stampers!

Once upon a time I enjoyed turning 'flat' floral stamped images into a more realistic blossom with lots of fussy cutting and adding curves to the elements, etc.  Like most of us, my style has morphed along my stampy journey.  So when my darling friend, Kittie posted her DTGD18kittie747 challenge earlier this week, I knew I wanted to play and return to lifting up those petals!  

Both the blossom and the sentiment are from Wendy Vecchi's 'Birthday Art' stamp set.   I stamped the image 3 times, coloring each one with Copics before fussy cutting.  Each layer was offset atop the previous layer before gluing in the center.  

When I spotted the softly colored printed paper in a retired My Mind's Eye square stack, I knew I had to use it with this bold blossom.  For the center of the blossom, I used little bitty seed beads.  (My bitsy rhinestones are AWOL from their last known location ... so plans had to change.)

Screechless Chalkboard

Stacy's Dare ... well, her Dare to Get Dirty challenge (DTGD18JBgreendawn) is just one of lots of fun challenges to dive into this week over at SCS!   Long ago I sold my paper crafting chalks.  Then I borrowed some cool metallic chalks from my crafty daughter ... and returned them after a bit of fun.  So, here's what I opted to do:

My Misti positioner enabled me to get a nice amount of VersaMark ink on the black card stock, since it allows us to stamp again in the very same spot.  Thankful am I!  Plus, since my rectangle was already die cut, it allowed me to perfectly place the jar image.  The sentiment was prepared separately, then punched out and affixed with dimensional foam.  I finger-rubbed the  white smears of faux chalk dust, so .... no screeching of the chalk on my 'chalkboard'!  (Some of us will understand ... but those who know only 'white boards' might have a little question mark on their faces.  ;)

Tex's Tip:  When embossing, being sure to have complete ink coverage on the image is important, as well as using an anti-static pouch.  Find the anti-static pouch in the stamp departments where embossing powders are sold.

C'mon & Take the Dare!

It's here!   The annual week of Dare to Get Dirty challenges over at Splitcoaststampers is here!   

Although each day this week will bring some special new challenges, I'm actually more of a "turtle" stamper .... keep a steady pace, hurry isn't good, "channel the hare" ... you know what I mean.    
  This one is for Dina's challenge, DTGD18dini:    

I could quietly tell you that my fingers were ink-free during the making of this one .... but truth is my style ... even when it's ugly.  Yes ... a few fingers on each hand briefly bore evidence of inky play yesterday from the sponging of piggy's turf, and the splattering of the background.  

BTW ... both the pig pen dirt and the splatters are Distress Oxide - Walnut Stain.  For the splatters I simply wiped ink directly only an acrylic block, then loaded a watercolor brush with water, mixed it up, and splattered from the brush.  

Since the image area was created by masking, masking again, and even a third round of masking for the splatter process, the only true dimension is via the lifted little sentiment banner.  

This darling stamp + sentiment are both from Inky Antics.  It was fun to bring them out for some inky play again!

My card today was created with a 'Leo' birthday in mind, even though it doesn't really say 'Happy Birthday' on the front.  One of my newest stamp sets is "Guy Greetings", and I really like the variety of sentiments it offers.  In fact, it's so packed with goodies for masculine creations that it's a 2-box set!  Trust me ... this set really delivers the options for all sorts of reasons to create & send a card to the guys in your life & on your heart!

Challenges, Swaps, & Fun!

Have you discovered the annual week of Dare to Get Dirty challenges going on this week over at Splitcoaststampers??  Ohhhh, it's a week filled with several new challenges each day  -- plenty for the most prolific stampers to get a good run for their inky rubber!  (or photopolymer!)

Let me back up in time just a bitty bit.  July was exceptionally busy for me and for thousands of other demostrators who attended the Inspire. Create. Share. convention in Salt Lake City. 

A time-honored traditional activity at Stampin' Up! events is the swapping of card samples!   Well, if one wishes to "swap" ... they must create and bring their own creations to swap!  Enter the definition of busy in a convention-goer's July.  (I'm sure it backs into June or earlier for some ... just not for me.)  

Another something that I did during July was to write up my Dare to Get Dirty challenge ... and that challenge, DTGD14TexasGrammy, went "live" this morning.  Okay ... so it took an entire month for me to theoretically kill 2 birds with 1 stone.  What can I say?   (Besides the fact that if I were to kill a bird - much less "2" - I might fall near death from the guilt?)  

Well, I'll leave those questions for all to ponder ... or not.   I do hope you'll take a few minutes to check out the fun during the Dare to Get Dirty week!  We always have lots of fun, creative challenges, and new ways to get you in a creative way of thinking!
