Ice, Ice, Baby!

'Tis the 2nd week of December:   Time to bring you the latest Challenge Chicks Challenge!
Lydia .... keep in mind that she stays tucked in warmly, farther down in Central Texas ... and of all people, she has come up with "Ice, Ice, Baby!"  as our challenge!  Now she is not a fan of any temps below the 60's at all ... so this challenge really gave me a bit of a chuckle upon first read.

The Challenge Chicks are a group of stampy chicks who have stamped together through the years on various design teams and/or Splitcoaststampers.
Some of us get the pleasure of each other's company from time to time at different events, but we've joined together to continue stamping online monthly just for the joy of sharing!  We invite you to stamp along in the challenge, upload your card to our Challenge Chicks page on Facebook, and to your online gallery, Pinterest, etc.  This month's keyword for your gallery upload is CHXDEC15.  Use a clear element on your creation to represent the Ice, Ice, Baby! challenge, such as clear embossing, acetate, clear liquid adhesive, etc.  Then c'mon and play with us!

To create the illusion of an icy Winter's day out in the pasturelands, I stamped images from the Sheltering Tree stamp set with Pool Party and Smoky Slate inks.  Thanks to my Misti, I was then able to stamp directly over the colored inks with VersaMark ink, then dust with Clear Embossing Powder and heat emboss all trees to a clear shine as though fully coated with a layer of ice.

The effect really came into being when I used my Whisper White Craft ink pad to smudge white ink directly across the image layer in streaks.  Once I was pleased with the smudgy ink application, I heat embossed the inked areas with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder.
The Basic Gray image layer was dry embossed with the Softly Falling Textured Impressions folder, then dabbed with VersaMark.  I heat embossed this layer with Iridescent Ice EP as well, so the icy effect extended beyond the white image layer.

I need to send some very special Thank You's to some teachers who took exceptional care when a child I love deeply was bullied harshly last week.  Not knowing any of them personally, perhaps this card will fit the need in at least one case.  Tex's Soap-box Moment:  We Must Listen!  When anyone is bullying, it's up to each of us to take a stand.  Each of us must be willing to make a difference with immediate assistance and be sure that teaching follows for all involved.

Ready for more Ice, Ice, Baby inspiration?!  Slide on along to see what the rest of the Chicks are sharing!

'Tis the Season for a Tag!

It's time for some inspiration from
 ...

This month Kelly Schirmer has challenged us to create a tag to coordinate with a gift wrap!  Well, that's definitely going to be on everyone's to-do list soon enough ... so the timing seems positively perfect to me!  Thanks, Kelly!

Poinsettia fans, I hope you like it!

I have a heartfelt connection to poinsettias via my beloved Aunt and Uncle with whom I spent many summers.  Because these precious family members were nursery owners, I was blessed to be somewhat infused with floral scents + visuals, grand colors of countless blooms, the sweet aromas of rich planting soils + gently watered seedlings. Later in years, I received the most beautiful hanging poinsettia plant "ever" from their own nursery during one of their visits to my own home when my children were still young.  Needless to say, the fabulous Festive Flower Builder Punch was right at the top of my first list from the Holiday Catalog.  This one features Cherry Cobbler + Old Olive card stocks. My tag coordinates with the Season of Cheer designer paper shown in the background ... which to me, seems much like a vintage designed wrapping paper.   My "Tis the Season" sentiment + accompanying motif are from the beautiful Peaceful Pines stamp set.  Oh .... I'm so smitten with the Gold Cording Trim from the Holiday Catty!  {Note to self ... I need more for hanging ornaments!}

Water & Ink Splatters * Challenge Chicks!

It's time for the Challenge Chicks' September challenge!

Jeanne has challenge us with "Splat!"  Use watery color splatters on your creation!
I'm not much of a mixed media stamper ... but I definitely enjoy using water stamping techniques from time to time.   If you haven't given water + ink a try ... maybe this challenge will be just the little seed you've been needing to check it out this month!  If you do, please do share your creation and your thoughts with us on the Challenge Chicks FB page!  Use the keyword, CHXSEP15, when you upload your creation at Splitcoaststampers ... ... We wanna see!

My background layer was created by sponging Crushed Curry, Tangelo Twist, and Cajun Craze inks onto the raised surfaces of my Mosaic Textured Impressions embossing folder.  Then I use my Stampin' Spritzer to spritz water onto the ink.  I laid Very Vanilla card stock into the folder and closed it, but did not roll it through my Big Shot for this creation.  Essentially I used the embossing folder as a "stamp".

Although it may look as though I used a colored card stock for the leaf, I began by sponging a piece of Very Vanilla card stock with Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, and a little Blackberry Bliss ink.  Next, I used my wet fingers to flick water onto the inked card stock while holding it over the sink.  (I adore having a sink in my studio ... and it's times like these that it comes in oh so handy!)
Just to be different, I added random splats of gold embossing powder as the last step and heated that to melt.  Once all of the splattering & heat drying was finished, I inked the leaf stamp with Cajun Craze, stamped the custom paper, and die cut with the Leaflets Framelits ... an excellent coordinating product for the Vintage Leaves stamps!  After die cutting the leaf, I sponged the edges a bit with Blackberry Bliss ink, since that color had faded so much during the water splattering.

Are you thinking about playing along with us this month?  We'd love to have you share in the fun!   Be sure to treat yourself to even more inky "Splat" inspiration from the following Challenge Chicks ... I'm pretty sure you'll be tempted to get inky once you've savored the splattered fun shared throughout our talented Chicks!  Have a sweet & inky day, y'all!

Chicks Circles Challenge!

Good morning!   I have 'new news' to share today!

I'm tickled to share that I was recently invited to join some of my friends at the Challenge Chicks challenge team!
Sa-weeeeeeet!  The Challenge Chicks is a monthly challenge brought to you by some splendidly talented stamping & paper crafting artists!

C'mon and play along with us! Share your entry over at the Challenge Chicks Community Facebook page!   Psssst!  There's no deadline to play along ... no last-minute rush with an "Oh no, I'm late!" at the end.  Just a creative challenge for your stampy pleasure!  Uploading to Splitcoaststampers?  The keyword is: CHXAUG15

This month's challenge is Circles of Friendship!   Use circles ... mixed with a bit of friendship!  Friends ... If you're like me, your friends can be special treasures ... each so uniquely wonderful!  My card today is appropriate for oh so many friends of mine!

Perhaps you've heard that it's been a hot, hot summer here in Texas.  Maybe that's why I just keep using the fabby Watermelon Wonder in-color.  For this pinterest-inspired creation, I used the In-Color Designer Series Paper Stack 2015-2017.  The designs in this paper stack make creating just plain easy!

The sentiment is a pairing of the Hello You Thinlits, and one of the many great sentiment choices available in the Crazy About You stamp set.  See how easy this all comes together?   The stamps and dies are available as a money-saving clear mount bundle too!  Circles?  Easy-peasy with SU's Circles Collection framelits.

If you'd like to get a look at even more Circles of Friendship inspiration, I know you're going to enjoy checking out what my Chick sistahs have in store for you as well!  Chick'em out, and hopefully you'll decide to join in the fun!   There's no deadline to play along ... no last-minute rush with an "Oh no!" at the end.  Just a creative challenge for your stampy pleasure!  I
